One of those books that maybe everyone should read… but if this wasn’t a Disney movie, would anyone really care?
I’ve read a few ‘out there ‘books. Books written ‘back in the day’ when situations don’t make sense. The story doesn’t flow. The ideas are so far out there, that you are amazed by the modern thinking of it all. Yet, this one doesn’t do it for me.
It was ‘too’ out there without having a real purpose of it all. It wasn’t entertaining… and even the poems or songs that I found interesting and fun, would end halfway through. So you didn’t even get to enjoy the poetic nonsense.
I found this book a waste of time, too illogical
to enjoy and amazed that it built up this much of a reputation. BUT! (I can contradict
myself because that’s all the book does…) I would say you should read it just because of the reputation it built up. Read it because it’s a classic. Read it because it’s short and won’t take up too much time. And finally, read it because then you can say you did and move on.
Note: I did not read the version with illustrations… maybe that would have made the nonsense words worth it if they could have been broken up by interesting illustrations.
